Co-sponsored by MCS Bank and United Way, this event had over 50 walkers who raised $6,393.50 for the MJ Energy Bank. The 2nd Annual Walk for Warmth, a one or three mile fixed-route walk-a-thon, took place on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Derry Township Community Park in Burnham. Without the Walk for Warmth, many families in the Juniata Valley may have no heat in their homes this winter. The recipients of the Walk for Warmth funds are the poor who are unable to work, the working poor, the elderly and the disabled. The Energy Bank is managed by the Coalition of HOPES (Help Offering People Essential Services) – a community partnership serving Mifflin and Juniata counties…working together to meet the needs of those in crisis and help them on the road to self-sufficiency. The Energy Bank is primarily used for heating assistance. At today's current fuel prices these funds will help approximately 19 targeted households with children or senior citizens.
This year HOPES has taken over 4,000 calls. To access the Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank call the Coalition of HOPES at 717.248.2552.
